One of the happiest fish you will ever meet. Usually, one of the smartest and most interactive fish you can add to your tank. They interact with their human caregivers in engaging and odd ways and will quickly become the fish you interact with the most! With psychedelic eyes that look like galaxies and beak that makes this fish look as if it permanently has a smile on its face this fish will have you interacting and smiling at it every time you see it.
The Spiny Porcupine Fish can inflate itself like a balloon when it feels as if it is in danger. This causes the small spikes that usually lay flat on the fish's body to spike up making it look like a prickly bouncy ball. Color variations of tan on a white belly with black spots and dark brown saddle are the most common. They tend to prefer coral and rocky reefs, mangrove areas, and muddy, sandy and grassy flats.
CAUTION: Almost all pufferfish contain tetrodotoxin, a substance that makes them foul tasting and often lethal to fish. To humans, tetrodotoxin is deadly, up to 1,200 times more poisonous than cyanide. There is enough toxin in one pufferfish to kill 30 adult humans, and there is no known antidote.
